Lovibond® 2000+ Comparator AF 353Test Kit - Blood Haemoglobin Levels (Harrison’s Method)

Lovibond® 2000+ Comparator AF 353Test Kit - Blood Haemoglobin Levels (Harrison’s Method)

353Test Kit - Blood Haemoglobin Levels (Harrison’s Method)

The Lovibond® AF 353 test kit is designed for estimation of blood haemoglobin levels using Harrison’s Method.
This method is particularly simple with low running costs since it employs undiluted blood and does not use any
reagents. Furthermore, it does not require any power supply for operation. Blood is run directly into a special
capillary blood cell and the colour of the blood is matched in a Comparator instrument with a series of
precalibrated glass filters. The filters are housed in a pair of Lovibond test discs: disc 5/8A covers the range
20 - 58% haemoglobin; disc 5/8B covers the range 64 - 130% haemoglobin (100% is equivalent to 14.6 g per
100 ml).

The Lovibond AF 353 test kit is supplied with the following equipment in a plastic carrying case:

Lovibond® Comparator 2000+ European Pharmacopoeia Colour Series Lovibond® AF 332 Test Kit

Lovibond® Comparator 2000+ European Pharmacopoeia Colour Series Lovibond® AF 332 Test Kit

Colour Grading of Pharmaceutical Solutions according to the European Pharmacopoeia Colour Series Lovibond® AF 332 Test Kit

European Pharmacopoeia methods for colour assessment of pharmaceutical solutions are based on a visual comparison with liquid standards formulated from dilutions of primary red, yellow and blue. However, the colour of these liquid standards is stable only for a limited period so, to ensure reliable results, new stock solutions must be prepared regularly.

Their preparation requires considerable time and care as any slight variation may give rise to inaccuracies and inconsistent results. By comparison, glass colour standards are simple to use, quick to obtain results and eliminate the time-consuming procedures involved when using liquid standards for colour grading.
Tests conducted by the Swiss Federal Department of Health concluded that the Lovibond Comparator System 2000 with glass colour standards was as reliable for colour grading of pharmaceutical solutions as the standard colour test solutions specified in the European Pharmacopoeia.

Lovibond® Comparator 2000+ Colour Grading according to EBC Colour Scale AF 330 Test Kit

Lovibond® Comparator 2000+ Colour Grading according to EBC Colour Scale AF 330 Test Kit

Colour Grading according to EBC Colour Scale Lovibond® AF 330 Test Kit
The EBC colour scale, developed by the Institute of Brewing and the European Brewing Convention, is a recognised method for colour grading of beers, malts and caramel solutions as well as similarly coloured liquids. It has a range of 2 to 27 visual units, yellower pale worts and lagers at the low end of the scale and the redder colour of dark worts, beers and caramels at the upper end of the scale. If the sample falls outside this range (eg concentrates, syrups) then sample dilution and a different path length cell can be used to bring the reading within the EBC range.

AF 330 Test Kit
Based on the Lovibond® Comparator System 2000, this kit is a convenient means of ordering the complete range of equipment required for grading samples according to EBC Colour. It includes four colour-grading discs, each containing stable-coloured glass standards that represent a portion of the EBC Colour scale. Sample dilution and the cell path length (5 - 40 mm depending on their saturation) are chosen to bring the reading within the standard EBC range. The sample is then viewed in a Lovibond Comparator 2000+ with the appropriate test disc until a colour match is obtained. EBC Colour is always reported as if it were undiluted and measured in a 25 mm path length cell using the following equation:

EBC Colour = Reading x dilution factor x 25/path length in mm

Comparator 2000+
A high quality comparator instrument designed for colour matching of liquid samples with the precalibrated coloured glass standards housed in Lovibond test discs. It includes an integrated prism, which brings the sample and the colour standard together in a single field of view and an adjustable sample cell compartment.
